Max Brandt
Max Brandt joined the European Commission in 2019 where he currently works in the counter-terrorism unit of the Directorate General HOME. As part of the RESILIENCE team, he is in charge of the operational work with Member States on critical infrastructure and is coordinating the activities of the Commission on critical communication, notably the establishment of the EU critical communication system (EUCCS). Max manages the Mission Critical Communication Group- an expert group combining the main government experts on critical communication from the EU and the Schengen associated countries- which is chaired by the Deputy Director for Internal Security of DG HOME.
Since 2022, he is furthermore part of the German Think Tank on Public Security, bringing together experts from different fields to reflect on the future of public security policy. Before joining the Commission, Max has been Chief of Staff to a Member of the European Parliament (2014-2019), research officer the German Police University (2013-2014) and worked in a wide range of projects on civil and military security sector reform, security and defence policy in Germany, Türkiye, the South Caucasus, Ukraine, Moldova and the Republic of Cyprus. Max graduated in International Relations and Political Science with a specialisation on political history of Europe.
