All eyes on the Deepwater Horizon

Mission-critical monitoring in difficult circumstances
The Macondo prospect is an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Macondo became world news in 2010 because of a
disastrous blow-out on the Deepwater Horizon drilling
rig. The explosion triggered an oil spill that had to be
brought under control as soon as possible to prevent
further damage to the ecosystem.
The mission
To close the hole in the oil well, a Blowout Preventer (BOP)
had to be installed deep underwater to prevent further
leaks. Various teams and vessels were deployed for this, all
of which needed good offshore communication and live
monitoring to be able to follow up this mission as it devel-
oped.
The services provided by Citymesh
Citymesh (formerly known as nCentric) was ready in an
extremely short time. To manage the various parallel mis-
sions of the Thunder Horse remediation project, we provided
two essential elements: firstly, communication between
teams, captains and the US government and secondly, live
monitoring of the BOP submarine installation. Thanks to
the efforts of our on-site experts and the deployment of
the Nova Node, all ships deployed were able to access HD
images from various Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV)
simultaneously and in real-time.
Our team was always ahead of all difficulties: we took into
account possible obstacles, interference and the fact
that the deployed teams were constantly on the move.
The images were reliably transmitted to all parties involved
without interference.
