International Worker’s Day in Berlin: Preparation, Execution and Post-Processing

The presentation focuses on the operations during May, 1st in Berlin from 2016 to 2018. May 1st or the International Worker’s Day and is a celebration of labourers and the working classes promoted by the international labour movement. In the late 80s it became particularly unrestful in some districts of Berlin and ever since, demonstrations usually result in riots and civil disorder every year. This presentation gives an overview on the tactical and operational management of this large scale event from the perspective of the Authorised Office Berlin. It covers all phases from the preparation before the event, through the execution during the operation until the post-processing.
